Purpose:

This poster was created using 3d elements as a class assignment to demonstrate the impact of the New Zealand Pea Crab on aquaculture for a general public audience. The New Zealand Pea Crab is a parasitic crab whose life inside the green lipped mussel results in the mussel’s reduction in size. Design decisions were made to support overall focus, comprehension and legibility. A contrasting color scheme captures the viewer’s attention on the subject pea crab. The small upper right diagram was created to highlight the significant morphological differences between male and female pea crabs, an essential point for species introduction. Inclusion of mussels within the composition gives the viewer a sense of the relative size of the New Zealand pea crab while also showing their preferred habitat in a way which underscores the parasitic nature of the relationship. A V-shaped arrangement for the comparative illustration on the bottom left was designed to quickly visualize the pea crabs’ effect on mussel growth. Finally, concise language supplements the visual story with minimal text.
